Bailey Fernandez
Bailey Fernandez is a PhD student and Presidential Scholar in the Design Computation Group. He arrived at MIT in the Fall of 2024. His research focuses on the more thorough integration of design computation within mathematical and philosophical logic, cognitive science, and analytic philosophy. Trained initially in these traditions, Bailey's research is guided by the grounding assumption that setting the foundation for research at the intersection between these disciplines will provide further ground for interdisciplinary research in this area. He currently works on the shape grammars formalism under the supervision of George Stiny.
In addition to his academic work, Bailey is also a project manger with extensive international experience. Following a Fulbright scholarship taken at the University of Vienna from 2022-23, he remained in Austria as a recipient of the 2023-24 FOLD Alumni Symposium Grant. Using these funds, he developed a financial partnership between Fulbright Austria and Fulbright Bulgaria to support knowledge transfer between American, Austrian, and Bulgarian NGOs working in the disability and assistive technology sector. This exchange culminated in a symposium held in the Johannes Kepler University Linz in the summer of 2024.
