Mark Hellrich

SMArchS Computation

Mark Hellrich is a dual-degree student in the SMArchS Design and Computation program and in the SM Civil and Environmental Engineering program at MIT.

His research focuses on building technology, specifically on integrating structural optimization with fabrication constraints. By simplifying construction and increasing efficiency, his work addresses the challenges of the building stock projection and aims to contribute to a more sustainable built environment.

Before joining MIT he worked as research assistant at the Block Research Group at ETH Zurich where he contributed to projects in Zurich and Cape Town. During his studies at ETH Zurich he worked as teaching assistant for Prof. Jospeh Schwartz at the Chair of Structural Design and for Prof. Benjamin Dillenburger at the Chair of Digital Building Technologies. In 2021 he worked one year as intern in the office Christ&Gantenbein in Basel. Mark holds a BSc in Architecture from ETH Zurich.
